This first of Beca's mashups at the impromptu pool rehearsal found the Bellas singing Bruno Mars' Just the Way You Are mashed with Nelly's Just a Dream, and it really actually worked. We'll get to the end of the Riff-Off in a bit, but the beginning, featuring the Bellas, the Trebles, the BU Harmonics and, um, the High Notes, was a fun way to characterize each group and gave us some really great renditions of Mickey, Like a Virgin and Hit Me With Your Best Shot. Too bad they ran out of gas (literally) and never finished the song.

I don't know what's better about this moment in the movie: When the girls slowly add on to each other to turn Chloe's earphone sing-a-long into a full-performance, or the unadulterated joy on Beca's face when she finally joins in on the fun. The Trebles definitely beat the Bellas at Regionals, but this song will always belong to a different a capella group for me. I'm far more impressed by her actual spontaneous performance of the song on Letterman.
#Pitchperfect first song movie
Unpopular opinion: Anna Kendrick's performance of Cups in the movie is cute and all, it's really not all that special. The very first aca-song we hear in the movie is a decent performance from the Trebles, but nothing special (and definitely suffering from a distinct lack of Jessie and Benji). Not exactly up to their performance standards. Not much of a production and Bumper is doing a weird dance the whole time. If you don't remember this one, it's the song the Trebles sing when they're at the activities fair.

But don't worry, the whole movie is about how they get better from here.

The whole number is a bit of a yawn and even the Bellas themselves aren't that interested in singing it. No offense to Fat Amy's rendition of Percussion, but I have to agree with the judges on this one. And so, I present, the very scientific and entirely definitive ranking of the numbers from the original Pitch Perfect. The new movie has amazing a capella renditions of songs like Timber, Wrecking Ball and Run the World (Girls), and, of course, aĪnd while the new songs in Pitch Perfect 2 are great, there's a very special place in our hearts for the numbers from the original movie. The ladies of the Barden Bellas are back and singing in theaters this weekend.
